Permanent Makeup Removal: Everything You Need to Know

Jim Trenholm • May 15, 2018

Want to save time in the morning, but don’t want to sacrifice your overall look? Permanent makeup is an excellent solution; however, the end result may not be what you expect. If you’ve had bad permanent makeup application, let Unthink Inc. help you remove it.

What is permanent makeup?

Permanent makeup is a process in which ink pigments are meticulously tattooed onto the face, to naturally define facial features without having to apply makeup each day. Within the last decade, forms of permanent makeup such as microblading, micropigmentation, dermal pigmentation, permanent cosmetics and cosmetic tattoos have become more popular for their time-saving capabilities. With permanent and semi-permanent makeup, those with busy schedules can save precious time in the morning, while still looking their best. Although there are many pros to this treatment, the biggest con is having to take a chance on something permanent. If you don’t like the end result, or it’s not what you expected, you may feel you’re stuck with it forever. Fortunately, there is a safe and effective method of removal at your fingertips.

Permanent makeup removal technology.

At Unthink Inc. we offer advanced permanent makeup removal with Syneron Candela’s revolutionary PicoWay laser. With PicoWay, our expert technician Jim is able to remove your unwanted cosmetic tattoos in less time and with notably less discomfort than other tattoo removal lasers. This is due to PicoWay’s unique picosecond pulse rate, which allows the ink to be shattered by the laser energy at a speed so quick it’s speed is measured by the trillionth of a second (picoseconds). Once the ink has been successfully broken up into tiny pieces, the body’s lymphatic system can absorb the particles and remove of them through natural processes.

Permanent makeup removal process.

Permanent makeup removal is similar to that of our body tattoo removal. The area is first meticulously cleansed and prepped, then partially numbed with a blast from our Zimmer Cryo Chiller. To fully numb the area, we also have a topical numbing cream available for purchase. Do be aware that this will tack an extra 30 minutes onto your treatment time. After the area has been precisely treated with the PicoWay laser, a custom ice pack will be provided to cool the area down and help with any potential swelling.

The lasering process only lasts about five minutes, with most of the appointment devoted to preparation and aftercare. If only a portion of the brows is being treated, Jim will use a blocking baton to ensure precise results. With PicoWay’s ultra-fast speed , treatments have been known to be more comfortable and bearable when compared to traditional laser tattoo removal lasers. Immediately after treatment skin will be red and slightly swollen. However with the proper aftercare methods this should go down within the first 24 to 48 hours.

To be eligible for permanent makeup removal. You must wait at least eight to 12 weeks after the ink was applied. After this time has passed, the pigment can be safely removed. Permanent makeup removal usually takes between two to five sessions. Each spaced about six to eight weeks apart.

Permanent makeup removal aftercare tips.

Aftercare is equally as important to permanent makeup removal as the technology itself. If the proper aftercare processes are not followed the area will not heal correctly, leaving you with more of an eyesore than a fresh start. We recommend the following aftercare regimen: rest, sun protection, proper care and hydration. Taking at least one day off to rest post-treatment will give your body the time it needs to properly heal. Keeping yourself hydrated will speed up the removal process, as will staying out of direct sunlight.

After your first treatment, Jim will walk you through the aftercare process and leave you with a complete aftercare kit. This kit includes a tin of our favourite vitamin E based moisturizer NovE gel. This will help the area heal faster and keep the skin from drying out. A few application a day will do wonders for the treated area.

Eyebrow tattoos have become an increasingly popular beauty trend, offering a semi-permanent solution for those seeking perfectly shaped and defined brows. However, not everyone ends up satisfied with their results. Whether it's due to a change in aesthetic preferences, an allergic reaction, or less-than-desirable outcomes, you might find yourself considering removal. At Unthink Inc. , we specialize in helping clients achieve the look they want through effective removal methods. Here’s a comprehensive guide on when to consider eyebrow tattoo removal with a combination of saline injections and laser treatment. Understanding Eyebrow Tattoos and Their Risks Before diving into when to consider removal, it's crucial to understand what eyebrow tattoos entail. Typically, these tattoos are a form of cosmetic tattooing, where pigment is implanted into the skin to create the appearance of fuller, darker eyebrows. While many are thrilled with the results, there are potential risks involved. The process can cause skin damage, infections, or allergic reactions, which in turn may lead you to reconsider your decision. Symptoms Indicating Removal Might Be Necessary 1. Faded or Uneven Pigment: Over time, the pigment used in eyebrow tattoos can fade or turn into an undesirable color, especially with exposure to sunlight. If your eyebrow tattoos have started to look uneven or have changed color, it might be an indication that removal is your best option for a fresh start. 2. Allergic Reactions: Unfortunately, not everyone’s skin reacts well to tattoo pigments. Allergic reactions can result in redness, itching, or swelling. If you experience these symptoms, removal could alleviate discomfort and help restore your skin to its natural state. 3. Discomfort or Scarring: The tattooing process can sometimes damage your skin, causing discomfort or scarring. If your eyebrow tattoos have left visible scars or if you have ongoing discomfort, removal can potentially improve the appearance of your skin, reducing both visible and physical distress. 4. Change in Aesthetic Preferences: Your style and preferences can evolve over time. What seemed like a perfect choice five years ago might no longer align with your current taste or beauty goals. If your eyebrow tattoos don't fit your desired look anymore, removal offers a safe and effective way to reclaim your natural brows. The Dual Approach: Saline Injections and Laser Tattoo Removal For those considering removal, Unthink Inc. offers a unique approach combining saline injections and the PicoWay laser treatment. This dual method is designed to deliver optimal results tailored to individual client needs. 1. Saline Injections for Lighter Pigments: In some cases, saline injections may be recommended to lift lighter pigments before proceeding with laser treatment. This helps to create a more uniform appearance and prepares the brows for effective laser removal. Our specialists, will work closely with you to coordinate the saline process, ensuring a smoother transition to laser treatments. 2. PicoWay Laser for Final Touches: Once the lighter pigments are addressed, the PicoWay laser is employed to remove the remaining darker elements of the unwanted brows. Known for its precision and safety, this state-of-the-art technology targets the tattoo pigment with minimal impact on the surrounding skin. Preparing for Your Removal Session Before undergoing treatment, a consultation with a qualified specialist at Unthink Inc. is vital. We’ll assess your tattoos and discuss your goals and expectations. Here are some tips to prepare for your session: - Avoid sun exposure at least two weeks before your appointment to reduce skin sensitivity. - Refrain from using topical creams or medications that can make your skin more sensitive. - Communicate any skin conditions or concerns with your technician. Recovery and Aftercare Post-treatment care is essential for optimal results. After your session, you may experience some redness or swelling around the treated area. To ensure a smooth recovery, follow these aftercare tips: - Avoid sun exposure and apply sunscreen as advised. - Keep the treated area clean and moisturized. - Refrain from picking at any scabs or flaky skin.
