Depending on which area of your body you’ve decided to get a tattoo, going under the needle can be more or less uncomfortable. Similarly, the nature of your laser tattoo removal sessions (and healing process) can differ.

Although everyone has a different pain threshold, there are certain factors that can determine how uncomfortable your tattooing experience will be. Depending on how thin or thick the skin is in that area; how close the area is to a bone; and the amount of nerve endings within the area; you will feel more or less uncomfortable.

Nerve endings are the millions of tiny points on the surface of your skin that work to send messages to your brain whenever you feel a sensation. Areas with a high number of nerve endings tend to be more sensitive, therefore when in contact with a tattoo needle, can be especially painful. Large amounts of nerve endings are usually in areas that react sensitively to touch, like those with thin skin or small joints.
